July 15, 2011 was the day my childhood officially ended. No I wasn’t whisked off into some arranged marriage nor did I have some ceremony that signified my transition from boy to man. However I did have a moment when I had to face the truth.

That was the day the FINAL installment of the Harry Potter film franchise was released and once those ending credits began to roll that’s when I had to face the harsh reality of there never being another Harry Potter movie.  I remember sneaking and reading the books as a child (my mother wanted no parts of witchcraft in her house…she later realized it was a simple tale of good vs evil and I didn’t have to sneak anymore) and just being taken away on this epic journey through wizardry and witchcraft. I imagined myself at Hogwarts becoming friends with Harry and Queen Hermione and poking fun at Ron. Yes…I always felt that there should have been a fly black wizard in the group and I would have been perfect for the role. I had the swing of my wand down packed .

I remember being eleven years old and receiving the ‘Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone’ DVD for christmas (Thanks Grandma and Granddad). And over the next 10years religiously making sure I bought and saw every one of the film installments. So this day in 2011 was bittersweet. I grew up with Harry and the gang and it was all coming to an end right before my very eyes. I look back and smile to myself, that was the day my childhood ended but I get to relive it whenever I see fit thanks to this beautiful Blu Ray set haha.

While it isn’t quite the same not having another film to look forward to, I still get to feel some of those same feelings of joy. But you know what they say, all good things must come to an end.
