Last night I was having a conversation with a few of my friends and somehow we got on the topic of dating and what we would want in a significant other. One of my key points was being socially versatile. Meaning being able to adapt to any social environment you’re placed in. As in we should be able to go to a lounge or bar and have a great time but when it’s time to walk the red carpet or go to a Gala you better know how to speak, act, and dress.

Some people consider that to be fake. Which was news to me. When I’m with my friends I’m all about the “turn up” however, when placed in a business environment I am very professional in my dress and in my speech. Does that make me fake or socially versatile? I’m going with socially versatile, being that there is a time and place for everything I’m not going to go to certain social environments and act the way I act with my friends at a bar. I’m still very much myself.

Jay Z is prime example. He loves his sneakers and fitted caps, but we see him in a tuxedo and a bow time from time to time when it counts. He also speaks very educated when it comes to his business compared to the way he is with his friends. Does that make him fake? NOPE!

I mean if I can’t bring the person I’m with to a Gala or red carpet event out of fear that they don’t know how to have an educated conversation, or they’re going to act a complete fool, or they’re going to dress like they’re an extra in a Lil John video then we just can’t be together. It’s not about changing who you are as a person but just knowing how to differentiate between different social settings.

So the open discussion for the day is does being socially versatile make you fake? Share your thoughts in the comment box below!
