[BLOG] Film/Life Problems: How To Deal When Freaking Out Isn’t Enough.
Have you ever had an instant in life to where you thought you had EVERYTHING in order? I’m talking about all your I’s were dotted and all your T’s were crossed and the next thing you had to do was jump right into whatever situation you planned? It’s looking real good and all systems are go…and then something or someone fucks it up.
I know this feeling a little too well. So I wrote a short-film…it was pretty dope for what it was and I had the green light from the production company to start shooting it. The actors were casted, we had our director and producer on board, we had our locations scouted, the props had been purchased, so literally all I had to do was show up on set and begin to film.
A few hours before the shoot I get a call,a call NO Filmmaker/Writer/Director wants to get. My actor cancels on me literally 3 hours before call time. So I’m left scrambling to find an actor in less than 3hours who has to learn the script and fit the same measurements for wardrobe. That should be easy in New York, right? WRONG!
So what were my options? To freak out and panic or make an executive decision and push back the shoot? So learning the business I did what was best and pushed the shoot back. It’s important to do things that get the best results. Had we rushed anything, the finished product would have been less than satisfying and underwhelming.
You have to remember things in life happen for a reason, and just like so many things can go wrong in film, its important to make the right decision for your brand and in this case your life. Don’t rush everything, try to calculate every step. Here at The Cynical Owl we call it troubleshooting. So the next time something takes your for a spin TROUBLESHOOT IT.
