Yes as a female creative, it was a little upsetting to see this infographic. It really sucks to see the lack of creative talent blooming on the female side. Why is this? I know a few months ago I made a post about how I had once read a quote by a man saying women do not belong behind the camera. It still boils my blood to hear that and it doesn’t make it better seeing this in a chart.

I can’t honestly say what the reason for it is. Am I the type to preach on about the whole “females are equal to males” thing? No. I don’t have the true facts of why the percentage of women in Hollywood are so damn low and hasn’t changed much. I know we are in different times though. All I can say is women storytelling has to be pushed. Is there a female filmmaker or actress reading this? If you are one and you’re scared of this society ripping you to shreds because you are a woman, I tell you now to stop that thinking at this minute. We are capable of doing absolutely anything. There is no superior gender. (I beg you to not think this is a debate). We can be creatives. We can change the world. I don’t know what next year has in store of us but my only theory is that the percentage will just move up gradually each year. It would be great to have a boost, but how unlikely is it? Maybe that’s just my wishful thinking but I would love to post up a chart next year that will have a shocking increase.

Only one woman has gotten an Oscar for “Best Director”. That blows my mind. There are so much amazing talent out there. They need their shine. I love to share stories and films for you guys so maybe as a creative myself I should highlight more of the talent out there on our website. You know never know, maybe these female creatives need that exposure or need a platform and don’t know where to start. They want to know someone out there is watching. Do not let this infographic discourage you but encourage you.
